Utah
This play is designed to get a mismatch in the post, and had worked effectively to get lay-ups against poor
defensive teams. The basic concept of the play is to have the POINT back screen for the POST.
Instructions
· The SHOOTER has the ball on the wing.
· The POINT runs down the lane, and the POST steps to the top of the key.
· The POINT sets a back screen on the POST’s defender.
· The POST cuts off of that screen (either side depending on the position of the defense) down the lane toward the basket.
· The SHOOTER passes the ball to the POST for a lay-up (or for a mismatch in the post).
Tips
· If you get the ball in the post and you have the mismatch, only take the shot if you are 100% sure you are going to make it. Don’t force a bad shot. All you have to do is reset and run another play to get a lay-up.
