Closed Gym League - Season X
League News * It took overtime for Flying Knueppels B.C. to win the CGL title over Aurora SMI 109-106. BJ LaRue's long three-pointer hit the back of the rim as time expired. * Incredibly, ASMI won the first three quarters by ONE point each. FKBC became the first .500 or less team to win a CGL crown. * SMI led 76-65 with a few minutes left in the third, but FKBC made a furious rally to trail 78-75 after three. On an amazing play, with .3 remaining Mike Roemer threw a full court pass which a spinning Dan Wargolet, in one motion, caught and flung a fifteen footer toward the hoop that inexplicably dropped in. * FKBC killed SMI on the boards 55-39 and scored a boat load of second chance points. FKBC had 104 FGA to SMI's 84. * Dan Wargolet more than doubled his season average, scoring 40 points and hauling in 14 rebounds. Matt Becker added 32 and Blake Knutson put up 22, 16 & 7. * In a substitute ridden game, Thrivent Financial bested Pro Seal Roofing 129-118. * Quincey Moman capped a record setting season overtaking first all-time by averaging 37 ppg. He also landed at 7th all-time with 230 FGA despite only playing in 8 games. * Steve Pape had a career game for Pro Seal notching 23 points on 5/7 shooting behind the arc. Steve Kohl had 37, 12 & 8 for the winners. * In the defensive battle of the night MSG scored 84 second half points (2nd all-time) including 45 in the fourth (also 2nd all-time). * Lewis Jiles hit his first 7 threes scoring 31 points in the first half and ending the night with a career high 46 points. Craig Machut chipped in 44 joining Melka and Masino as the only other teammates to score 40+ points in the same game. Scott Meerstein had 43 for MSG. * Wishoops.net took all four quarters in their 120-97 win over Pichler Painting * The story of the night became Ben Royten who hit a league record tying 13 threes. He hit 6 in a row in the fourth and Slim will attest to the fact that he was in his face on several. He was 13/19 overall, but in his final attempts to break the record he....airballed two in a row. * Other notable season records: Craig Machut: 5th - PPG (33.9) & 2nd FGM (143); Ben Royten: 4th - 3FGM (50 in only 8 games); Scott Frey: 2nd - 3FGM (54) & 3FGA (123); Steve Kohl: 4th - 3FG% (.524) * After taking 6 weeks off Brian Endres return for the championship game only to ask, "What color are we?" * Apparantly if you want to make the CGL All-Star team you're in good shape if your last name starts with "M". News & Notes - CGL11 begins May 13th. The link to the schedule can be found on the main page. League Leaders
